While many magnetic shields primarily cut direct current magnetic fields, the TMS-533 is characterized by its effectiveness against alternating current magnetic fields as well. The disturbances caused by magnetic fields are due to both direct current and alternating current magnetic fields, and simply cutting out direct current magnetic fields, which have a significant impact on televisions, video tapes, cassette tapes, and magnetic recording cards (such as credit cards), cannot be considered a perfect magnetic shielding solution.
